We then researched into the 50's before starting our Model boxes. We also divided up the play in to suitable scenes and created a story board.

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning
Over christmas we were given the task of reading Saturday Night and Sunday Morning by Alan Stiletoe. When we returned after christmas we read the play.
Costume for Observation and Recreation
For our Observation and Recreation Project we
had to look into the clothing people wore in the
50's so we could place people in our final designs.
We mainly looked into women in the 50's as we were an all female group so we could dress some of our group as 50's women.
This also ties in with our Saturday Night and
Sunday morning Project where we are making a
model box and set.
The play Saturday Night and Sunday morning by Alan Stiletoe is based in
Nottingham in the 50's so this will help when i am doing the costume for the
people in my set.
This is how we dressed two members of our group
with the help of the Costume department leader Jenny, i think
we pulled it off.
Observation and Recreation
We were given the task of selecting a
part of the Waverly building and recreating it.
My group decided upon the wall around the side of the workshop as it had a lot of different
colours and textures, it also had a gate in the
middle which would look good in the recreation.
After we selected this section we then tried to find what it looked like in the 1950's, however we struggled with this as there wasn't really any images
of this. We did find an image from the
1890's which we thought was a good start.
When we spoke to Mick about it we decided
against using the gate in our structure, as it was
hard enough to make the gate on our scale models
and we did not have enough resources to make all
of it.
Once we had made our 1:25 scale models of the wall, we chose one from our group and decided to
recreate the chosen model. We started by making
a wooden frame of the wall and the pillar using MDF.
After we made the basic frame we covered it in
polystyrene and drew on the bricks we had measured,
cutting into them with files and a hot wire to create
the gaps where the mortar would be in between the
bricks.
We then covered it all in Idendun to give it a base coat
which we then painted a dark grey over the top, slowly
using lighter colours to make it look more like bricks.

We used different techniques such as dry brushing to
highlight different parts of the bricks, giving it depth and
definition.
It took a lot of coats to cover up the grey, so for a long time
we were not very optimistic with the way it was looking.
After a lot of coats of paint it looked amazing and like a real brick wall, we also added some ivy to make a good effect of a
brick wall that had been there over time.
